今日はパート5によく出る単語を見て行きましょう(^^)

1) be composed of : The board of directors of Quick Design Inc. is composed of 12 members who meet regularly once a month.

2) insufficient : Especially during the holiday season, there tends to be an insufficient number of staff to handle requests from customers.

3) infant : The recent research shows that infants are much more likely to have allergies if either parent smokes.

1)「〜で構成されている」クイックデザイン社の取締役会は、12人の役員で構成されていて、定期的に月1度会合を持っている。The committee is composed of economists and business people.(その委員会は経済学者と財界人で構成されている) 他動詞なので次ような使い方もできます。Women compose more than half of all the workforce. (女性は全労働力の半数以上を構成している) 名詞は composition 「構成、曲、作品、作曲、作文」などの意味があります。

2)「不十分な」年末年始などの時期は特に、顧客の要望に対応する職員の数が不足しがちである。This letter is insufficiently stamped. (この手紙は切手不足です) 反対語はもちろん sufficient ですね。

3)「乳幼児」最近の研究によると、乳幼児がより高い確率でアレルギーにかかるのは、親のどちらかが喫煙をしている場合である。The delicate skin of infants burns easily in the sun.(幼児の弱い皮膚は日に当たると日焼けしやすい) ちなみにヨチヨチ歩きの幼児は toddler です。
