今日はパート4の単語を見ていきましょう。

1) contemporary art : Thank you for visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art.

2) excerpt : The questions refer to the following excerpt from a talk.

3) deduction : We’ll break up into small groups and discuss payroll taxes, deductions and self-employment tax.

では、意味を確認しましょう(^^)

1)「現代芸術」近代美術館にご来館いただきありがとうございます。Britain’s contemporary architecture is excellent.(イギリスの現代建築は優れている) 「同時代の」という意味もあります。These events were roughly contemporary with each other. (これらの事件は大体同時代に起きた)

2)「抜粋」質問は次の抜粋に関するものです。The newspapers published excerpts of his speech. (新聞は彼の演説の抜粋を載せた) よく似た単語に quotation (引用)というのがあります。Asterisks are used in this book to mark quotations. (本書においては星印は引用を示すために用いている)

3)「控除」小さなグループに分かれ、給与税、控除、自営業者税について話し合います。動詞は deduct (控除する、差し引く)ですね。I deduct the full amount as a necessary expense. (その全額を必要経費として差し引く) You get a deduction if you have dependent children. (扶養する子供がいれば控除が得られる) のように税金の話でよく出てくる単語です。
