東京の地下鉄で、妊娠した女性(expectant mothers)が席に座れるようにLINEのアプリで席を譲ってくれくれる(giving up their seats)人がわかるシステムを試験運用したというニュース。思いやりの心は嬉しいですね。

さて、今日はパート7の単語を見ていきましょう(^^)

1) virtual : You can use a virtual assistant.

2) linguistic : All of our linguistic specialist have at least 10 years of translation experience.

3) localization : Localization includes the translation as well as adjusting language for different cultures and locations.

1)「仮想の、ネットワーク上の」仮想のアシスタントをご利用できます。一番よく耳にするのは、virtual reality (仮想現実)でしょう。virtual は「事実上の」という意味でもよく使われます。a virtual stranger (他人も同然の人)、Virtually all the students passed the test. (ほぼ全員の生徒がテストに合格した。)

2)「言語(学)の」当社の言語の専門家は全員10年以上の翻訳の経験があります。He has a linguistic talent.(彼には語学の才能がある) linguistics は「言語学」です。He graduated with the honors in linguistics from T university.(彼はT大学の言語学科を優等でで卒業した)

3)「現地語化」現地語化に含まれるのは翻訳に加え言語をそれぞれの文化や地域に合うように手を加えることです。動詞は localize ですが「〜ある地域に局限する」という意味もあります。A flood struck that area as a result of the localized downpour.(集中豪雨のためその地方に洪水が起こった) locate (位置を特定する) もTOEIC にはよくでますね。The new library is located near tha station.(新しい図書館は駅の近くにあります)のような使い方で頻出です。
