では、今日はパート3 によく出る単語や表現を見ていきましょう。

1) expedite : We should expedite our plan because our current situation won’t last long.

2) specification : We’ll discuss a possible change in the specifications.

3) malfunction : There is some kind of malfunction with the heating system in my office.

では、意味を確認しましょう。

1)「促進する」今の状況は長くは続かないので、計画を促進するべきだ。speed up と言い換えもできます。expedite commercial transactions (商取引を促進させる) expedite digitization of citizens and businesses widely (国民や事業者のデジタル化を幅広く促進させる) など、比較的固い内容について使われます。

2)「仕様」仕様の変更が可能か検討してみます。specification change notice (仕様書変更通知) specification document, specification form で「仕様書」となります。

3) 「機能不良」私のオフィスの暖房システムは、何らかの機能不良が見られる。malfunction of a control device (制御装置の故障) malfunction of the body’s immune system (体の免疫系の機能不全) など、何かの機能に不具合が生じた時に使う単語ですね。mal- は、悪いという意味で、他に、malice (悪意)、malnutrition (栄養失調) などがあります。
