今日はパート7の単語を覚えましょう。いくつわかりますか？

1) expenditure:  Government expenditure is exceeding reasonable limits.

2) cutting-edge: He’s been studying cutting-edge technology.

3) patronage: The shop has secured a wide and loyal patronage.

1) 「支出」 政府の支出額が妥当な限界を越えようとしている。annual expenditure は「年間支出」。revenue and expenditure は「収支」。類語は expense 。

2) 「最先端の」彼は最先端技術を研究している。同意語は state-of-the-art で、これも頻出語です。

3) 「ひいき、得意客」その店は幅広い固定客を得ている。the patrons of the department store は「デパートの顧客」。a patron of the sculptor は「その彫刻家の後援者」、いわゆるパトロンですね。secure という動詞にも注目です。「確実にする、確保する」などの意味があります。
