各政党(party)のリーダー(leader)が 22日の衆議院選挙活動(campaign)に向けて誓いを立てた(pledge)というニュース。どんな結果になるのでしょうか。注目ですね。

さて、今日はパート5によく出る単語を見ていきましょう。

1) commute : More than 60 percent of the people in the state commute by public transportation, such as trains and buses, instead of driving.

2) implement : Recent studies indicate that implementing electronic health recordkeeping yields positive benefits for patients.

3) real estate agent : The Smiths were very fond of the real estate agent as she worked diligently to find a house that met their requirements.

では、意味を確認しましょう(^^)

1)「通勤、通学する」 州内の60パーセントを超える人々が 通勤・通学に利用しているのは列車やバスなどの公共機関で、車ではない。How long does it take for you to commute? (通勤時間はどのくらいですか？) commuter は「通学、通勤者」ですね。a commuter pass (通学、通勤定期) Millions of commuters were inconvenienced by the strike.(そのストライキで何百万人もの通勤客が足を奪われた) などのように使います。

2)「〜を実施する」最近の調査によると、電子的な保険記録を管理することは患者に的確な利益をもたらす。The students took the initiative to plan and implement this campaign.(学生が主体となってこのキャンペーンを企画し実行した) 名詞の意味では「道具、用具」の意味になります。farm implements (農具) medical implements (医療用器具) 

3)「不動産仲介業者」スミス夫妻がその不動産仲介業者をとても気に入ったのは、彼女が勤勉に仕事をして、彼らが求める条件に合った家を見つけてくれたからだった。have a real estate agent assess one’s house (不動産屋に家を査定してもらう) have O 動詞の原型 (Oに〜してもらう) という構文も確認しておきましょう(^^)
